The probe committee formed by Gazipur district authorities came up with the findings on Monday.
Gazipur Deputy Commissioner SM Tarikul Islam received the probe report on Sunday. The report stated, "The death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in prison was natural."
Earlier on 26 February, Gazipur district authorities had formed the two-member probe committee to investigate the death of the writer.
The members of the committee include executive magistrates Md Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury and Umme Habiba Farzana. They had been given two working days to submit a report. However, it was given five more days as it could not finish the investigation within the deadline on last Monday.
Tarikul said, "Writer Mushtaq, 53, fell in the toilet and fainted on 25 February and later he was declared dead at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital."
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) reportedly arrested cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore and writer Mushtaq Ahmed from Kakrail and Lalmatia on May 5 under the Digital Security Act for sharing anti-government posts on Facebook.
On May 5 last year, RAB-3 warrant officer Abu Bakar Siddique filed the case with Ramna Police Station against 11 people, including cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore.
