Writ filed seeking cancellation of 'special committee' at educational institutes
The writ challenges the validity of forming a special committee – operating under the Ministry of Education (MOE) – following Regulation 51 and Schedule-II of 2009
A writ petition has been filed, asking to cancel the unelected ''special committees'', formed for directing educational institutes.
Today, Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ petition with the High Court.
The writ challenges the validity of forming a special committee – operating under the Ministry of Education (MOE) – following Regulation 51 and Schedule-II of 2009.
11 people including secretary of MOE, chairman of Dhaka Education Board and deputy commissioner of Dhaka have been made defendants in the writ.
The writ has also asked for instructions on conducting the managing committee election process of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College within 30 days of the order.
"According to the 1961 Education Ordinance 39 (2) (vi), the education board only had the authority to form a governing body (college) and elected managing committee (school)," said Yunus.
However, the education board violated that law, enacting Regulation 51 and Schedule- II. Now there are many unelected special committees, which is against the law, the lawyer maintained.
