Woman found dead at Cox’s Bazar hotel amid lockdown
Though the hotels in the beach town were supposed to remain closed during the ongoing lockdown, a couple rented a room managing hotel caretaker Motaher Hossain on Thursday
Police recovered the hanging body of a young woman from a hotel in Cox's Bazar's Kalatoli area on Friday.
A staff member of the Sea Pearl-2 hotel went to clean the bed around 3pm and saw the girl hanging from the ceiling fan. Later, on information, police from Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station recovered her body.
Though the hotels in the beach town were supposed to remain closed during the ongoing lockdown, a couple rented a room managing hotel caretaker Motaher Hossain on Thursday.
Hotel authorities claimed that the body of the woman was found hanging when the caretaker opened the room using an alternative key as they were not getting any response from the room till Friday noon.
According to the national identity card found with the woman, she was from Hnila of Teknaf upazila.
The boy who was with the girl remained fugitive, said police, adding that the woman might be killed or committed suicide late Thursday night or sometime on Friday morning.
Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias said hotel caretaker Motaher Hossain was kept in police custody for questioning. It is also being investigated why hotel rooms have been rented amid the lockdown restrictions.
He said the body was sent to the morgue of Sadar Hospital.
It would be known whether it was murder or suicide once the autopsy was done, he added.
