A 45-year-old differently-abled man has died in a wild elephant attack at Kaptai in Rangamati district.
The incident took place in front of the forest development training dormitory on navy road today morning.
Chittagong Hill Tracts South Forest Division's Kaptai Range Officer Mohsin Talukder said, "The man had been wandering in and around the forest for some time. At 6 am on Sunday, the forest guards found his torn limbs on the road and said a wild elephant attacked the man. Later I informed the local administration."
District Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kaptai Circle) Raushan Ara Rob said, "Every day wild elephants are entering the area around the camp in groups and causing damage. Everyone is terrified. An unnatural death case has been filed at Kaptai police station in this regard."
According to the source, another differently-abled man was killed in the same area last year. In the last two years, five people have been killed in wild elephant attacks in Kaptai.
