Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested a woman for suspected involvement in killing her husband and dumping his body parts in sacks, after cutting into pieces at different parts of the capital.

Police arrested the accused Fatema Khatun from Banani area on Monday afternoon, but disclosed the information in a press briefing on Tuesday.

After police produced Fatema before the court, the court sent her to a five-day remand on Tuesday.

DB's Joint Commissioner Harun-or-Rashid said that Fatema is the first wife of the victim Moyna Mia. She sedated and killed him on Saturday. Later she dismembered her husband's body and dumped the body parts at different places of Banani and Mohakhali in the capital.

Earlier on Sundat night, Banani police recovered a decapitated body from beside the Mohakhali kitchen market. Later, several more limbs were recovered from Amtali area while the decapitated head was found in Banani Lake.

Shanto Rahman, a sub-inspector of Banani Police Station, said the parts of the body were found inside dumped sacks.

Harun said that the couple had disputes over the husband's second marriage and Moyna Mia was also taking money from his first wife by force.

The Criminal Investigation Department's forensic unit confirmed identity of the decapitated body and then police contacted with the victim's second wife, who confirmed his disappearance for last few days.

DB Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Moshiur Rahman said that Moyna Mia was staying with Fatema since 23 May at Karail slum in Mohakhali, and they had arguments on many issues.

Fatema told police that at one stage Moyna threatened to kill her. In response to the death threat, Fatema herself planned to kill him instead, said the police officer.

On Friday night Fatema mixed sedatives with juice and made Moyna drink it. She did the same on Saturday evening and chopped him to death. She cut her husband's body into six pieces, said police.
