Ward councillor arrested over violence at Sonargaon resort

A ward councillor was arrested on Saturday night in a case filed over violence at Sonargaon resort in Narayanganj on 3 April.
The arrestee was identified as Faruk Ahmed Tapan, 8 no ward councillor of Sonargaon upazila.
Khandaker Tobidur Rahman, inspector of Sonargaon Police Station, confirmed the matter, reports Prothom Alo.
Earlier on Thursday night, former ward councillor Garib-e-Newaj was arrested.
Hefazat-e-Islam's Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque, who has been the loudest voice in the organisation in a number of recent controversies, was detained with a woman, who he claimed as his second wife, at the resort on 3 April.
Later, a group of leaders and supporters of Hefazat attacked the resort and released him.
Seven cases were filed by police in this connection accusing 446 people and 1,800 unnamed people.
So far, 63 people were arrested in the cases.
