US State Department’s website ShareAmerica launches Bangla version

ShareAmerica, a platform of the US State Department, has launched a Bangla language version on its website to expand its access to people who speak Bangla all over the world.

On the occasion of a virtual inauguration programme of the Bangla version, on Thursday, the US Ambassador to Bangladesh Earl R Miller said, "This initiative has been taken by the United States to expand access to information about US policies, values, and culture to Bengali speakers everywhere as this is the 7th most spoken language all over the world."

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the independence of Bangladesh and five decades of friendship, this Bengali site will support to deepen people-to-people ties and ever-expanding bilateral relationship between the countries," he added.

Marking the spirit of International Mother Language Day, Miller remembered the great sacrifice of language martyrs that proves the intent of learning Bangla language today.

He also encouraged young people to come forward like 1952 to uphold the nation's future and asked suggestions on improving this web page.

According to the US embassy Dhaka, with this free resource, Bengali people will be connected more on US education, life and culture in which the better engagement and communication could be possible.

The newly launched web page contains five main categories – About America, Economic Opportunity, Education, Global Issues and Government and Civil Society – with 18 sub-categories.

This would be more useful for the journalist, educator and the researchers as a more reliable hub of information about US and international relations. Now, the users may subscribe the portal for getting content notification at least once a day.

Officials of the US embassy said they are looking forward to accept more application in higher studies and exchange programmes from Bangla speaking communities.

At present, more than 100 articles on different phenomenon have been published through this (share.america.gov/bn/) web link. Apart from Bangla there are ten other languages including English, French, Spanish, Bahasa Indonesia and Portuguese in the website.

ShareAmerica is the US Department of State's platform for communicating American foreign policy worldwide. The site is managed by the Bureau of Global Public Affairs of US Department of State.
