US embassy to remain closed Wednesday
The embassy will resume normal activities, including emergency services for American citizens, on May 7 and thereafter
The United States embassy in Bangladesh, including its consular section, will remain closed on Wednesday (May 6) on the occasion of Buddha Purnima – a Buddhist festival to celebrate the birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha.
However, emergency services for American citizens will be available during the holiday, and the embassy can be contacted for that purpose at the following telephone number: (88) (02) 5566-2000.
From May 7 onwards, the embassy will resume normal activities, including emergency services for American citizens, according to a press release.
The media note also says that, as public transportation in Dhaka will be limited amid the government public holiday, American citizens may contact its consular section at the aforementioned telephone number to have their appointments rescheduled.
On March 19 last, the US Department of State issued a world-wide health advisory, urging its citizens to return to the country if they are not prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period, reads the release.
The US embassy also asked its travellers to get enrolled into the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) on https://step.state.gov/step/ to receive the latest updates in this regard.
