Two get death penalty for murder in Manikganj

A court here on Tuesday sentenced two men to death for killing a worker in the Sadar Upazila in 2010.

The convicts are – Masud, son of Mozaffar of Charhujuli village of Sadar upazila, and Sanowar, son of Bodiuzzaman of Tarakandi village in Bogura.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Sahana Haque Siddique delivered the verdict in presence of the convicts.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Mathur Nath Sarkar represented the state while advocate Anowar Hossain stood for the convicts.

According to case statement, the convicts were at loggerheads with Ratan, 22, a worker of Basundhara Steel Mill and son of Bishu Mia of Hijuli village of Sadar upazila.

On March 9, 2010, the convicts called the victim over phone and took him to the Dhaleshwari River bank where they strangled him.

Ratan’s father filed a case at the Sadar Police Station the next day.
