More than hundred and fifty bikers, who share rides using ridesharing apps, have blocked different parts of the capital including Mohakhali and Mogbazar area protesting a ban, imposed by Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) on bike ridesharing services for the next two weeks.
The bikers were slowing down traffic by riding together at a slow speed, which prompted huge traffic congestion.
The traffic jam has stretched from Mohakhali to in front of Bangladesh Navy Headquarters in Banani.
The pack of riders were in front of Tejgaon Industrial Area, protesting through slowing down traffic.
The groups of bikers were seen heading towards National Press Club through Karwan Bazar area in the capital.
BRTA on 31 March imposed a ban on bike ridesharing services for two weeks which has been effective since 1 April. All the bike ridesharing companies were directed to halt their operations amid Covid-19 second wave.
The call to ban ride-sharing apps was in line with the government-mandated week-long quarantine to curb the rising cases of Covid-19.
