Reviving a long-unused railway link between Bangladesh and India on the Indian side of the border from Haldibari in north Bengal is likely to be completed by December this year.
The work of laying single-line tracks is almost completed on the Indian side from Haldibari in the Jalpaiguri district, reports Outlook India quoting a North East Frontier Railway official said on October 5.
The railway line from Haldibari to Chilahati in Bangladesh has been out of operation since rail links between India and the-then East Pakistan snapped in 1965.
"On our side, tracks are ready, and other works such as the construction of buildings and other ancillary things will be done by December," the official said.
India and Bangladesh's leadership has stressed the revival of pre-1965 rail links between the two countries, and some are already functional.
