Tourists asked to avoid Sajek till 30 Sept in extended advisory
Tourists were initially discouraged from travelling to Sajek from 25 to 27 September due to the prevailing conditions in the hill district
The local administration of Rangamati district has extended the advisory against tourist visits to Sajek until tomorrow. This decision was made in light of the ongoing security situation in the region.
Additional District Magistrate Zobaida Akter issued a notice regarding the extension today (28 September).
Tourists were initially discouraged from travelling to Sajek from 25 to 27 September due to the prevailing conditions in the hill district.
Earlier on 21 September, the 72-hour strike enforced by the Pahari Chhatra Janata in protest of the situation in Khagrachhari, Dighinala, and Rangmati had left approximately 1,500 tourists and 500 support staff stranded in Sajek under Baghaichari upazila.
To mitigate the impact, resort and cottage owners announced a 75% discount for stranded tourists. Additionally, the tourists faced shortages of water, gas, and food supplies during this period.
