Process on to appoint administrators for GP, Robi: Minister
Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said the mobile phone operators could lose their licenses if they do not clear their dues
Post and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that process was on to appoint administrators for Grameenphone (GP) and Robi.
"Issuing all kind of NOCs (No Objection Certificate) to them is currently off. The mobile phone service operators have also notified that their licenses would be cancelled if they do not pay the dues," the minister told the parliament on Wednesday while responding to a query of lawmaker Mamata Hena.
The Grameenphone and the Robi authorities had been opposing the appointment of administrators to realise audit claims. They previously had termed the move "fundamentally flawed".
The government previously approved the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission's (BTRC) recommendation to appoint administrators for them amid an ongoing row over dues.
The leading operators urged the government to rethink the option. They said they want to solve the dispute through discussions while the posts and telecommunication ministry said the operators did not comply with their directives.
