Banglalink achieves 3.7pc growth in the first quarter of 2020

The country's third largest mobile operator Banglalink achieved 3.7 percent year on year (YoY) growth in total revenue during the first quarter of 2020.
During the same period, Banglalink's customer base grew by 1.9 percent YoY while data customers increased by 7.8 percent.
Total revenue in the first quarter of the year grew by 3.7 percent YoY, an acceleration of growth compared to 1.2 percent in all the four quarters of 2019 supported by mobile service revenue growth of 4.2 percent to Tk11.4 billion.
Data revenue increased by 18.5 percent YoY, driven by increased smartphone penetration and data usage growth of 42.8 percent YoY to 1,713 MB per user.
The revenue increase was realised primarily before the outbreak of Covid-19 in Bangladesh.
In a reaction Erik Aas, CEO, Banglalink said, "As the Covid-19 crisis developed, we have focused on keeping people connected at all times, be it through voice or internet."
Erik Aas further said "Bangladesh is already a challenging market for us to operate in due to high tax rates and the less favorable regulatory environment, and coronavirus crisis is posing another challenge to our business' sustainability."
