Tangail gang rape: Two accused confess guilt
Police produced the arrestees before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday in connection with the case
Two youths arrested over the gang-rape of schoolgirls in Tangail gave confessional statement before a district court.
Among the three arrestees –Sumon Mia Babu, Yusuf Ali Khan and Babul Mia – the latter two confessed before the court of Judicial Magistrate Sumon Kumar Karmoker and Senior Judicial Magistrate Ariful Islam.
Later, the three were sent to jail, said court Inspector Tanveer Ahmed.
Besides, Senior Judicial Magistrates Farzana Hasnat and Nowrin Mahbuba recorded the victims' statements.
Investigation Officer of Ghatail Police Station Saiful Islam said, a group of four schoolgirls went to visit a forest named "Katra Ban" in Tangail Sadar on Sunday afternoon along with two male friends.
A group of five to six youths started following them, and at one stage, held their male friends hostage in a secluded place in the forest. Then, they gang raped three of the girls and harassed the other girl.
Following the incident, the victims informed the matter to their guardians, who then reported it to the local police station.
Later, the father of one of the victims filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Ghatail Police Station.
Police arrested the three youths raiding various areas of the district on Monday.
