Suspected drug peddler killed in Narayanganj ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug peddler, locally known as Gittu Hridoy, 30, was killed in a "gunfight" with RAB on Dhaka-Chattogram highway of Narayanganj in early hours of Wednesday.
Law enforcers have also detained thee of the deceased suspect's cohorts from the area - Johurul Islam Dollar, 35, Selim, 45, and Kamal, 50, all residents of Sonargaon.
A RAB 11 official and also Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
"A silver-coloured private car was passing through the highway check-post. On a tip-off that a drug shipment was coming from Munshiganj using that route, we tried to stop them. When the driver did not stop, we forced them to stop at the second check-post," the ASP said.
"After being stopped, the suspects opened fire on us and we retaliated. When the shooting stopped, we found Hridoy injured and took him to the nearest hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival," he added.
The RAB team confiscated 500 yaba tablets, some bullets and firearms from their possession and seized the car.
