A schoolgirl ‘committed suicide’ by taking sleeping pills allegedly after being stalked by a youth in Bhandaria upazila headquarters here early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ruksana Rupa, 16, a 10th grader of Bhandaria Sadar Girls’ High School and daughter of Ruhul Amin of the upazila.

Quoting Ruksana’s father, SM Maksudur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station, said a local youth named Tamim showed the girl a photoshopped photo of her with her face onto image of a naked body in his mobile phone on her way home from private tuition in the afternoon.

Ruksana informed her parents about it and later took some sleeping pills on Friday night.

She was admitted to Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) where she died around 1:30 am, the OC added.

Police are trying to arrest Tamim, said the OC.
