Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj, son of Bangladesh's first Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed, has announced the formation of a new organisation.

"I am planning to form this organisation to preserve the real history of the Liberation War and convey it to the young generation," Sohel Taj announced during a Facebook Live event on the occasion of Mujibnagar Government Day on Saturday (17 April). .

However, the former state minister for home affairs clarified that the organisation will not be a political one.

"If the correct history of the Liberation War can be presented then it is possible to build a country where there will be justice, good governance and a merit-based society," he said adding, "To that end, I am building a non-political organisation."

During the event, Sohel Taj demanded that 17 April should be celebrated not only as Mujibnagar Government Day but also as the Republic Day of Bangladesh.

He also said that he would never return to politics although will continue to work for the country.
