Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, registrar of National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH), has been arrested today in a case filed over the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisul Karim Shipon in an assault by the employees of Mind Aid Hospital in Dhaka.

Harun-Ur-Rashid, deputy commissioner (DC) of Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter in a press briefing.

Dr Mamun has a private chamber at Mind Aid Hospital, where the senior ASP was allegedly beaten to death by the hospital's staff on 9 November.

Both police and the family blamed the employees and the authorities of Mind Aid hospital for his death.

Calling the death, a murder, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid said that it was a murder, not any untoward incident.

Anisul's father filed a case accusing 15 hospital staff in this connection.

So far 13 people including 12 staff of the hospital have been arrested over the incident. Police also shut down the hospital.

Besides, a Dhaka court remanded the 10 employees for seven days in the case and 25 members of a fraud gang have been arrested and sent to jail.
