The second lecture of the "Bangabandhu Lecture Series" was held in Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury virtual classroom of Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday, says a press release.
The lecture was held in a joint venture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty and "Center for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences" of the university.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Dhaka University Professor ASM Maksud Kamal was present in the programme as the Chief Guest, according to the press release.
Director of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Research Institute for Peace and Liberty and UGC Professor Dr Fakrul Alam, Director of DU Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Professor Dr Mahbuba Nasreen and Professor Khondoker Mokaddam Hossain jointly presented an article titled 'Disaster Risk Governance in Bangladesh: Contributions of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman'.
Chairman of Dhaka School of Economics and Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation Dr Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed discussed the article, the press release reads.
Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal paid deep homage to the immortal memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and said that Bangabandhu has always stood by the people affected by natural and man-made disasters.
"Following the path shown by Bangabandhu, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made Bangladesh a role model in disaster management," he said.
Dr Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed said, "Bangabandhu throughout his life took various groundbreaking steps for political, social and economic liberation of the Bengali nation as well as disaster management and conservation of biodiversity and environment."
Professor Mahbuba Nasreen and Professor Khondoker Mokaddam Hossain elaborated on Bangabandhu's contribution to disaster management and environmental protection and his far-reaching thinking in the original article, the press release added.
