Rohingya NID scam: 3 including Chattogram election office staff on remand

A Chattogram court today placed three people including Chattogram election office staff on remand in connection with distributing national identity cards (NIDs) among Rohingya refugees and making them voters.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman passed the order, placing Office Assistant of Double Mooring Election Office Md Joynal Abedin, 35, on a three-day remand while Bijoy Das, 26, and his sister Sima Das, 24 were placed on a one-day remand, each.

Earlier on Tuesday, Chattogram's Double Mooring area Election Officer Pallabi Chakma filed a case with Kotwali police station under the Digital Security Act against five people, including the three presently taken on remand.
