Droves of people from 21 districts head for Dhaka via Narayanganj

Shimrail and Kachpur points, the intersections on Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet highways connecting 21 districts, were seen buzzing with Dhaka-bound people as the government is going to reopen all public and private offices, shopping malls and markets from Sunday.

Meanwhile, passengers have complained that due to the closure of public transport, they have to return to Dhaka from their village homes by multiple transports amidst various troubles.

They are returning in CNG auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, pickup vans, spending double or triple the normal fares.

Shamsul Alam Khan was returning to Dhaka with his family from Comilla. At Shimrail, he said he was returning to Dhaka by a microbus from Comilla.

Earlier, the fare from Comilla to Dhaka was Tk4,000 to Tk4,500. But due to the dire situation caused by the novel coronavirus outbreak, he was forced to spend Tk6,000.

He was returning to Dhaka to join the office which would open Sunday, he added.

However, the driver of the microbus, Abdul Haque, claimed that the fare was a little higher as they took six passengers in 12 seats in the microbus in compliance with the hygiene rules. Motorcyclists also made the same claim.
