A compartment of Dhaka-bound freight train derailed on the west side of the Bangabandhu Multipurpose Bridge over the river Jamuna at 7:30 am today, disrupting the rail communication with the northern districts of the country.

Haidar Ali, officer-in-charge of Railway Guard Police (GRP) in Sirajganj, confirmed the matter to the local journalists.

He said, "A rescue team from Pakshi has arrived at the spot."

Rail communication on the route was suspended till filing of this report.
