Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the government will issues a gazette notification on adjusted public transport fares during Covid-19 pandemic today.

The government has reduced the fare proposed by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA), said the minister during a videoconference from his residence.

The minister, also the general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, urged all, including transport owners and workers' organisations, to drive following newly fixed-fare and health guidelines during the crisis, says a press release.

"80 percent price hike will create additional pressure on people of the country. The government is going to adjust a logical bus fare considering the financial ability of the people," he said.

Buses and minibuses will carry passengers half of the total seats during the pandemic to contain the spread of the virus.
