Renu murder: 2 accused ‘confess’ to their part

Two accused in a case filed over the lynching of Taslima Begum Renu in Badda area reportedly confessed before a court on Friday to their involvement in the incident.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Millat Hossain recorded the statements of Ibrahim Hossain Hridoy and Riya and sent them to jail, said investigation officer of the case and inspector of Badda Police Station Abdur Razzak.

The inspector placed him before the court praying for taking their confessional statements.

Police arrested Ibrahim on July 23 and placed him on a five-day remand on July 24 while Riya was arrested from Badda area in the city on Thursday.

Three other accused-- Bachchu, Bappi and Shahin -- were put on a four-day remand each in the case on July 22.

Besides, Zafar, another accused in the case, gave his confessional statement under section 164 admitting his involvement with the incident.

On July 20, Renu was beaten to death over a child-lifting rumour at North Badda in the city.

Victim's family members claimed that she went to the area to look for a suitable school for her children when she fell victim to mass beating.
