Rapid Action Battalion has detained four members of the banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) from Signboard area in Narayanganj.
Acting on a tipoff, RAB-11 has conducted a drive in the area on Friday night and detained the four JMB members. The elite force has also seized many jihadi books and leaflets from the spot.
RAB-11 Captain Lieutenant Colonel Imran Ullah Sarker said this at a press conference at RAB-11 headquarters in Shiddhirganj of the district on Saturday noon.
According to RAB, the four men were holding a meeting with other JMB members to plan for subversive activities in the area.
"The detainees have confessed they had regular communications and secret meetings with high ranked JMB leaders for the smooth operation of organisational duties. They were planning for destructive activities in Dhaka and Narayanganj as a part of their ultimate goal to establish Caliphate in the country," said Imran Ullah Sarker.
The detainees are JMB Gayabe Ahsar member Mashrur Anwar Chowdhury alias "Lone Wolf" alias "Truth Sarkar", Mohammad Kawsar Alam alias Forhad Nur, Asif Ibtiaz Mohammad Ribat and Md Rakibul Islam.
The four were former students of engineering universities, and at present, work as high officials in various private organisations.
