Protest grows in Noakhali after MP Ekram says Obaidul belongs to razakar family
A sit-in protest will be continued until their demands are met, Mirza Quader added
Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and his party men are holding a sit-in protest demanding the expulsion of Noakhali-4 lawmaker and district Awami League General Secretary Ekramul Karim Chowdhury as he said Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is a member of razakar family.
They also demanded cancellation of the Noakhali District Awami League Committee as well as protested against bad politics, tender manipulation, recruitment scams, drugs and various other irregularities.
They held the protest at Bangabandhu Chattar of Basurhat Zero Point after a press conference and protest rally on Friday evening.
Quader Mirza also led an anti-Ekram procession at Basurhat Rupali Chattar to protest against the insult to Obaidul Quader.
He said, "We have waited a lot. Following the instructions of the Central Awami League, we withdrew our strike from the Basurhat Bangabandhu Mural. Have we received justice?
"Ekram Chowdhury being a drunk has uttered extreme insulting words against our leader and freedom fighter Minister Obaidul Quader. I said yesterday that Ekram was drunk, now it has been proven."
Quder Mirza continued, "The leader (Obaidul Quader) who has dedicated his life for the party and played a leading role in the war of independence, but today Ekram called him a member of a Razakar family."
The sit-in protest will be continued until their demands are met, Mirza Quader added.
