The Election Commission has prepared for the upcoming councillor polls in Bagerhat's Morrelganj municipality.

The municipality will only hold councillor elections because Manirul Haque Taluker, the only mayoral candidate – nominated by Awami League – is running unopposed.

Except for ballot papers, all necessary equipment – including ballot boxes, seals and marker pens – were sent to nine polling centres of the municipality by Friday afternoon. Also, the designated members of law enforcement agencies and election officials arrived at the centres.

The ballot papers will be provided to the polling centres on the eve of the voting, scheduled to be started at 8am on Saturday, Forazi Benazir Ahmed, district election officer, told The Business Standard.

A total 43 councillor candidates are competing in nine general wards while 12 are competing in three wards reserved for women. Around 16,000 people are expected to vote in nine wards.
