Though two senior leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh called for extending its ongoing hartal till Monday, but its Joint Secretary General Mamunul Haque said the final decision regarding hartal extension will be announced in the evening today.
Earlier, two Hefazat leaders – Maulana Shakhwat and Maulana Monirul- called for extending the hartal till Monday, during a rally at Baitul Mukarram mosque in the capital, what they said in protest against police action on their supporters during hartal.
The Islamist group Friday announced to observe a nationwide hartal for Sunday protesting over the deaths of its activists in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria, and Bangladesh visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The leaders and activists of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh turned violent in some parts of the country on Sunday during their daylong hartal.
They vandalised and set fire to several vehicles in Dhaka and Rajshahi, attacked government offices in Brahmanbaria.
