Ershad’s son wins Rangpur-3 by-polls
Saad Ershad secured 58,878 votes
Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad, son of late Jatiya Party founding chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad, has won the Rangpur-3 (Sadar) by-polls.
Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Shahtab Uddin announced the results on Saturday evening after day-long voting in the constituency.
According the results announced on Saturday, Jatiya Party candidate Saad Ershad secured 58,878 votes, while his nearest rival BNP candidate Rita Rahman got 16,947 votes.
Hussein Muhammad Ershad's nephew Hussein Maqbul Shahriar Asif, who participated in the by-polls as an independent contestant, got 14,984 votes.
The constituency fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on July 14.
