A Dhaka court on Sunday granted a two-day remand against each of 29 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its affiliates in two separate cases filed over an attack on police personnel.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order after a hearing on the cases, Assistant Public Prosecutor Hemayet Uddin Khan confirmed the information to the daily Prothom Alo on Sunday.
Earlier, Shahbag Thana police produced 16 accused before the court seeking 10 days remand for each while Ramna Thana police produced another 13 seeking a seven-day remand for each of them.
Those who were remanded in the case filed with Shahbag police station are Juba Dal Vice-President Zakir Hossain, Shecchasebok Dal Vice-President Parvez Reza, former Chhatra Dal assistant-secretary Khandaker Muzahidul Islam, Shecchasebok Dal Joint Secretary Sawgatul Islam, Dhaka University Mahshin Hall Cchatra Dal Joint Secretary Minhajul Haque, Dhaka Metropolitan North Cchatra Dal members Sawkat Ul Islam, Sajeeb, Shamim Reza, Shawon Jomadder, Imon Sheikh, Nazrul Islam, Sazzad, Rahman Rana, Mostafa, Mahmudul Hasan and Polash Miah.
The Ramna Thana accused are Dhaka Metropolitan North Juba Dal Joint General Secretary Sharif Uddin, Cchatra Dal leader Obaidullah, Nadim Hossain, Abdur Rashid, Toron Miah, Alamin Mollah, Sanower, Zahir, Rubel, Ebadul, Hamidul Islam and Mahshin.
BNP leaders and activists hurled brickbats at police during a rally at the National Press Club on Saturday. Police filed two separate cases at Ramna and Shahbagh police stations.
