Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lay the foundation stone of the Bangabandhu Railway Bridge on the Jamuna River on 29 November, said Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan.
The bridge will be built at an estimated cost of Tk16,000 crore, and the construction is scheduled to be completed by 2025, he told reporters while visiting the east bank of Bangabandhu Bridge in Tangail Wednesday.
Some 431 acres of land have already been acquired from the Bangladesh Bridge Authority for this purpose, he added.

Trains will run at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour on the dual gauge bridge once it is completed. At present, trains can run at a maximum speed of 20km per hour on the existing bridge.
Besides, a project has been undertaken to upgrade the rail track from Joydevpur to Ishwardi, the minister said.
Railways Secretary Md Selim Reza and Director General Md Shamsuzzaman, among others, were also present on the occasion.
