People who defy constitution should not call themselves Bangladeshi citizens: Law minister

People who do not follow the constitution should not call themselves citizens of Bangladesh, Law Minister Anisul Huq told reporters at Akhaura railway station in Brahmanbaria on Friday (14 July).

The minister arrived at Akhaura railway station by train from Dhaka. Throughout the day, he will attend several programmes in his constituency — Brahmanbaria's Kasba and Akhaura upazilas.

"BNP leaders say lots of things. We follow the constitution because the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave us this constitution after our independence. We will organise the election following that constitution," Anisul Huq said.

"I think it is not right for those who do not follow this constitution to call themselves citizens of Bangladesh," he added.

Among others, Akhaura Municipality Mayor Takzil Khalifa and Kasba Upazila Parishad Chairman Rashedul Kausar Bhuia were present with the law minister along with party leaders and activists.
