Patrol police did not hear any commotion from the Buet hall on the night when Abrar Fahad was brutally beaten to death, said Monirul Islam, head of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
"A police team was patrolling the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology area till 3am on the night of the incident but they did not hear any suspicious sound at that time," said the CTTC Chief.
Monirul Islam came up with the remark while addressing a press conference at the DMP Media Centre today.
He said Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of electrical and electronics engineering department of Buet, was beaten to death by some Chhatra League activists on October 7 for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir politics.
Four of the 19 accused have confessed that Abrar was killed on suspicion of Shibir connection, said Monirul.
He said investigation into Abrar murder would be completed by early November. The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police will submit the charge sheet in the case the same month.
