Passenger held with 70 gold bars at Chattogram airport

Custom officials today detained a passenger with 70 gold bars at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram.
The detainee is Mohammad Akhteruzzaman Khan, 32, a resident of Fatickchhari upazila in Chattogram. He arrived at the airport from Dubai on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-128 at around 11am.
"Acting on a tip-off, we searched his luggage and found the bars weighing around 8.2 kilograms hidden inside the charger lights battery case," said Reyadul Islam, deputy commissioner of Chattogram Custom House.
The market price of the gold is approximately around Tk4crore, he added.
A case will be filed against Akhteruzzaman.
