The Pabna district unit of Awami League (AL) has staged a demonstration protesting the demolition of a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kushtia.

Leaders and activists of district Chhatra League, Juba League and Swechchhasebak League also took part in the protest march which set out from the district Awami League office on Sunday.

The protesters marched through the city's main road and ended in a sit-protest in front of the district party office.

The protest programme, moderated by the district council acting Chairman Rezaul Rahim Lal, was attended by former state minister for home affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku MP, Sadar upazila Chairman Mosharraf Hossain, municipality mayor Kamrul Hasan Mintu, Awami League leader Kamil Hossain.

Warning the miscreants, the speakers said that Freedom fighters of the country had once crushed the fundamentalists and radical evils in 1971, they are now ready to defeat them again.

Moreover, they demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment for those involved in the vandalism.

Earlier on 5 December, miscreants vandalized an under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia district town.
