National Professor Anisuzzaman, who passed away on Thursday, has been laid to rest at the Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka.

The burial took place in the presence of his family members and friends after his namaz-e-janaza, which was held on the graveyard premises on Friday morning, his son Ananda Zaman confirmed.

He was also given the Guard of Honour at the graveyard.

The World Health Organisation's guidelines were followed for the funeral and the burial as Professor Anisuzzaman had tested positive for Covid-19, Ananda added.

The professor's brother Akteruzzaman, son-in-law Azimul Haq, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and Bengal Group Chairman Abul Khair Litu, also attended the funeral.

Final rituals for the burial of the national professor were planned and executed by the Prime Minister's Office.

Eminent educator Professor Anisuzzaman passed away at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka after suffering from various health complications. He was 83 years old.

Hours after his death, his samples tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
