Novelist Rahat Khan passes away
Rahat Khan, renowned journalist, novelist and former Editor of Daily Ittefaq, has passed away today.
"He breathed his last at 8:30pm at his Eskaton Garden residence due to old age complications," his wife Arpana Khan told media.
Rahat Khan's body will be kept in the cold storage of BIRDEM hospital.
He will be laid to rest in Banani graveyard sometime on Saturday.
"The time hasn't been fixed yet. His body may be taken to Press Club, Bangla Academy and Shaheed Minar," Arpana Khan said.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have mourned his death and expressed condolence to his family.
Born on December 19, 1940, the 79-year-old journalist joined the Bengali daily newspaper The Daily Ittefaq as an assistant editor in 1969. He spent four decades in the newspaper and eventually became its editor.
After leaving Ittefaq, he worked as an advisory editor of Dainik Bartoman and also served on the board of directors of the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
In March 2016, Rahat Khan was appointed as chairman of the board of BSS with a 2 and half years of contract.
