Detective Branch (DB) of Narayanganj Police has arrested a naval police constable over allegedly raping a housewife and realising money from her.

Sabbir Ahmed Mehedi, 27, son of Anwar Hossain from Maligaon village at Hajiganj upazila in Chandpur, had been working with Naval Police in Dhaka, confirmed Inspector Enamul Haque of Narayanganj DB Police.

The woman filed a case against Sabbir with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station on Sunday, confirmed Md Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of the police station.

He said DB police was investigating the case.

Sabbir lived at a rented flat in Shanarpar area in Narayanganj, according to the police sources.

According to the complaint, the woman met the accused on her way to her son’s school.

Later, they talked over the phone.

On August 7, Sabbir met her in Chasara of Narayanganj and took her to one of his relative’s house there.

He gave her a bottle of soft drink and she became unconscious soon after drinking it.

Then he raped the woman and took some nude photos of her.

After the incident, he demanded Tk3 lakh by threatening her to publish the photos on social media.

The woman, however, gave Tk 2.3 lakh to him, but Sabbir was not satisfied with the amount and demanded more money.
