Former BAB chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder arrested
Nazrul, chairman and founder of Nassa Group, led the BAB for nearly 17 years during the Awami League-led government since 2008
Police arrested former Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder from Dhaka tonight.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch, confirmed the news.
When asked in which case Nazrul was arrested, Mallick said multiple cases were filed against him.
Nazrul, chairman and founder of Nassa Group, led the BAB for nearly 17 years during the Awami League-led government since 2008.
He is also the former chairman of Exim Bank.
Following the ouster of the the AL-led government in early August, the central bank removed him and his wife Nasreen Islam from the bank's board on 29 August.
Earlier on 25 August, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) ordered all banks to freeze the accounts of Exim Bank Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder and his wife Nasrin Islam.
