A Faridpur court on Tuesday granted bail to Faridpur-4 lawmaker Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury in a case filed by the Election Commission (EC) over violating election code of conduct.
Faridpur District and Session court judge Md Selim Miah granted him on a bail bond of Tk 2,000.
The MP filed the bail petition with the court today after expiry of anticipatory bail granted by High Court, said MP's lawyer Shamsul Haque Bhola Master
The lawyer said the court granted regular bail to MP Nixon on the bail bond as the state prosecution did not oppose the bail plea.
Earlier on October 20, The HC granted him an eight-week anticipatory bail.
A case was filed on October 15 against Nixon for violating electoral code of conduct during by-election to the post of chairman of Charbhadrasan Upazila Parishad.
Senior District EC officer Nauabul Islam filed the case at Charbhadrashon Police Station.
EC sought legal action against the MP under the Upazila Parishad Electoral Code 2013 and Upazila Parishad Elector Code of Conduct 2016.
Nixon allegedly threatened the deputy commissioner and the assistant commissioner (land) of Faridpur over the arrest of his supporters during by-polls.
