Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said the nation would be grateful if the verdict for the remaining five, fugitive, convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were executed.

"We hope to bring back at least one of the remaining five fugitive convicted killers during Mujib Year," Momen said while speaking at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club on Friday.

The foreign minister urged the Bangladeshi diaspora to chip in with their respective efforts to extradite the fugitive killers. He also requested that Bangladeshis staying in the USA and Canada launch a mass signature collection campaign so that the countries send back the fugitives.

"The heinous August 15 killing is a blot on our history. We want to bring back the killers within Mujib Year to get rid of it," said Momen, adding the government also wants to bring back those involved in the August 21 grenade attack.

Dr Momen said it was possible for the Awami League to cancel the Indemnity Act to complete Bangabandhu's assassination trial as the public brought the party to power.

"We are able to celebrate Mujib Year as the people elected Awami League, and we will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence next year," he continued.

The foreign minister said, "Bangladesh is now a model for development and women's empowerment in the world. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we will establish Bangabandhu's dream of  a 'Golden Bengal' by 2041."

Momen said, "Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are synonymous. If Bangabandhu had not been born, Bangladesh would not have emerged as an independent nation. Bangabandhu not only dreamed of establishing a prosperous Bangladesh, he inculcated it in our hearts."

The foreign minister said the prime minister has done everything necessary for the development of the country following Bangabandhu's path. She has set the country in a position of honor on the global map.

"We are a victorious nation and we can. Sheikh Hasina has inculcated the mentality in our hearts," concluded the minister.
