Madrasa teacher arrested after mercilessly beating up a minor student in Chattogram

Police have arrested a madrasa teacher after a video of him viciously beating up an eight-year-old student over a trifling matter at a madrassa in Chittagong's Hathazari went viral.

The teacher named Mawlana Yahia was arrested from form his home at Sarafvata in Rangunia on Wednesday evening.

Hathazari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said that the student's father had filed a case with the Hathazari Police Station alleging that the child had been abused. Although they did not agree to sue at first, they were persuaded later. 

"He will be produced in court on Thursday and remanded by the police," added Rafiqul.

Earlier on Tuesday, Yahia, a teacher at the Markajul Islamic Academy, mercilessy beat up an eight-year-old student over him leaving the madrasa premises following his parents when they came to visit him at his educational instituion on the occassion of his birthday.

Later the video of him beating up the student mercilessly went viral on social media platform triggering a huge public outcry.

As an immediate response to his misconduct, the madrasa governing body expelled him from the institution.
