Legal notice seeks actions against those misappropriating government’s cash aid
If necessary actions were not taken in this regard within five days of receiving the notice, a writ petition would be filed with the High Court
A Supreme Court lawyer has sent a legal notice to the secretaries of relief and disaster management ministry, home ministry and local government department to take action against those involved in irregularities in the government's cash aid programme.
Supreme Court Lawyer Md Moniruzzaman Lincon sent the notice to the official e-mail addresses of the secretaries on Monday.
If necessary actions were not taken in this regard within five days of receiving the notice, a writ petition would be filed with the High Court, said the lawyer.
Advocate Moniruzzaman said, "The prime minister's cash assistance programme of providing Tk 2,500 to each of 50 lakh helpless families is a great initiative. We are disappointed and concerned about the corrupt mentality and activities of some groups, who are trying to sabotage this initiative at this crisis moment of the nation. So, it is necessary to bring them under the law and give them exemplary punishment."
