Security has been tightened around the Puja mandaps and temples across Dhaka to prevent unpleasant incidents during the Durga Puja, according to police officials.
"Police patrols have increased around Puja mandaps and temples. There is no likelihood of any untoward incidents during Puja," said Shafiqul Islam, Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
"We have spoken with Puja organizers and Hindu religious leaders. They are happy with our security arrangements," he added.
He made the remarks on Saturday after inspecting the security arrangements at Dhakeshwari National Temple.
Shafiqul Islam said Hindus are participating in Durga Puja festivities with appropriate security provisions in place.
He also said that all religious events are being celebrated on a limited scale because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
He urged people to maintain social distance while attending the festival.
