20,345 Police, Rab men contract coronavirus
A total of 20,345 members of Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have been diagnosed with Covid-19 until Saturday.
Among them, 17,704 are police personnel, while the rest 2,641 are from the elite force, according to the Police Headquarters sources.
Of the policemen, 3,419 are attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Apart from that, some 85 cops and 6 Rab officials have so far lost their battle for life after being infected with the virus.
A total of 19,461 Police and Rab personnel have made complete recovery after contracting the virus.
Of them, 16,905 are members of police and 2,556 are of Rab.
Currently, some 232 Police and Rab personnel are kept in quarantine, and 380 in isolation.
The Covid-19 death trajectory in Bangladesh continued to witness an upward trend as its fatalities mounted to 10,283 after 101 people died from the virus in the last 24 hours.
It is the second consecutive day when the number of daily fatalities surpassed 100-mark. Earlier on Friday, the country reported the same number of Covid-19 deaths.
However, the number of new infections has dropped significantly compared to the past few weeks, with 3,473 people were infected in the last 24 hours ending at 8am Saturday.
The case count stands at 7,15,252 in the country, according to The Directorate General of Health Service.
