Lakshmipur town shops closed till March 31
However, shops selling essential goods will be kept open
Businessmen's association in Lakshmipur town has decided to keep shops of clothes, shoes and cosmetics till March 31 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
AKM Salah Uddin Tipu, the sadar upazila chairman and president of Lakshmipur Banik Samiti, asked the shop owners on Friday afternoon to keep their shops closed from Saturday.
Lakshmipur Civil Surgeon Dr Abdul Gaffar said no one in the district had been diagnosed with the virus.
Sources at the district's civil surgeon office said 460 persons in the district are in home quarantine; 458 of them have returned from abroad and the other two work at factories in Dhaka.
However, 3,662 expatriates returned to the district this month but 3,214 of them have no traces, said sources.
Meanwhile, a mobile court fined one person Tk5,000 in the sadar upazila, two persons Tk20,000 each in Ramganj upazila and another one Tk5,000 in Ramgati upazila in the last couple of days. All of them returned from abroad recently.
Sadar upazila Chairman AKM Salah Uddin Ahmed Tipu said, "We have asked businessmen to sell clothes, shoes and cosmetics to keep their shops closed till March 31. However, sellers of essential goods have been told to keep their shops open."
