Reporters of various television channels and media outlets have written to the officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station expressing their willingness to be jailed voluntarily.

They wrote the letters against the backdrop of the detention of Rozina Islam, senior reporter of Bangla daily Prothom Alo, under the Official Secrets Act allegedly for taking snapshots of an official document at the Secretariat without permission.

Introducing himself as a special correspondent of Ekattor TV, Pervez Reza said he had filed many reports on anomalies and corruption as part of his professional duties. In doing so, he had to collect many documents for information and proof.

"I have secretly collected some of those documents for the sake of my investigation, and making the information public was necessary for a greater interest," said Pervez in the letter to the OC.

"I think all investigative reporters are guilty of the so-called crime that Rozina Islam has been accused of."

Considering all these, Pervez said he would like to be imprisoned willingly.
