Journalists demand health minister’s resignation over Rozina’s harassment

Journalists have demanded the resignation of the health minister today as part of their protest against harassment on Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam by the ministry's official in the secretariat.

Their demands also include withdrawal of case within 48 hours.

They also demanded an unconditional apology to Rozina Islam, the resignation of the health secretary, the arrest of corrupt people in the health ministry and a judicial inquiry.

The demands were made at a rally organised by the Bangla Town Journalists Foundation in front of the National Press Club on Sunday morning.

In this regard, the former president of the National Press Club, Shawkat Mahmud, said, "This government is against the people. This government has enacted the Digital Security Act to stifle the voices of journalists. Numerous journalists have been thrown in jail. Therefore, the freedom of the media must be ensured through the restoration of democracy."

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the convener of the Nagorik Oikko, said, "No criminal charges against Rozina Islam was proved in court. Boundless corruption is going on in the health sector. All of this is happening because of this unelected government. If this government is not ousted, no one, starting from the media, will have any rights."

At the time, he condemned confiscating Rozina Islam's passport and bail on TK 5,000.

Former VP of DUCSU Nurul Haque Nur said, "This government should stop the harassment of journalists, justice should be made against torture and harassment of Rozina Islam for six hours. The barrier to independent journalism must be removed by repealing the Digital Security Act."
