Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said if needed, land will be acquired to build playgrounds in each ward of the capital city.

Taposh made the announcement while talking to reporters after watching a football match of Inter-ward Sports Competition-2021 at Karim Jute Mills ground under ward No. 6 at Demra in the capital on Friday afternoon.

Mayor Taposh said, "We want our boys to come back to the field and play. But there is not enough space in every ward for sports. Along with inter-ward sports competition, we have also initiated to create sports venue in every ward.

"Already, in several wards, we have recovered some places for sports venue. We have taken steps to make them playable. We are making playgrounds in recovered places in wards 42, 26 and 13. It is a little difficult but we are hopeful that we will succeed by turns," he said, adding if needed, we will acquire land to establish playground in each ward for our children.

The DSCC mayor said, "On the occasion of Mujib Barsha, we have organised 'Inter-World Sports Competition – 2021'. It has created a great stir in Dhaka. There is a lot of joy among the boys."

Responding to a question from reporters, Tapas said, "Mosquitoes have already started to decrease due to the initiatives we have taken."

The DSCC mayor added, "Our experts advised us to continue taking action against dengue until December since the dengue outbreak is to continue till that time. We have done that. In doing so, we realised that we had made a strategic mistake. We should have started taking action against culex mosquitoes from November. Because, the water had become polluted already, as water depth starts decreasing with the onset of winter in November, turning into a breeding ground for Culex mosquitoes."
The DSCC mayor said action would be taken against dengue from April this year and against Culex mosquitoes from November.

Monirul Islam Manu, lawmaker from Dhaka-5 constituency, Kazi Morshed Hossain Kamal, joint general secretary of Dhaka South Awami League, Md Mokaddes Hossain Zahid, President of the Standing Committee on Sports and Culture of DSCC and other members of the standing committee were also present at that time.
